                                        Pre & Post Massage Advice

With all  massage treatments the following advice may be useful in order for you to gain the maximum benefit from your treatment and understand any after effects.

                                Before treatment

  • Before treatment, consider what differences (specific as well as general) you wish to feel by the end of your treatment.

  • Don’t wear your best clothing – Therapist generally use oil or lotions that may leave slight residue marks on clothing.

  • If you have just had a warm shower or bath, your skin will absorb any oil  more effectively.

  • Don’t wear fragranced products, epecially if you are having aromatherapy oils used in your treatment – the chemicals (and aromas) do not combine well.

  • Drink plenty of water!!

                             After treatment

  • Ensure you keep warm following treatment – muscles that are warm and relaxed from massage are likely to lose all that benefit as they tighten up in the cold.

  • Rest and relax to allow your body to settle – it’s easy to strain muscles after massage when you feel more ease of movement

  • Drink water after your massage.  Massage helps the body release toxins and increases circulation. Drinking water enhances the elimination of toxins and the circulatory system.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine before and after your treatment.  Your body has to work hard to eliminate these toxins and they will dehydrate you.  Try to stay clear of these for 12 hours after treatment.

  • Have a light meal to keep blood sugar stable and avoid any dizziness or light-headedness.

  • Massage can bring on an S.E.R. A somatic emotional release can occur when tension is released an memories from when that tension occur can be released with it. These responses can vary from person to person. Laughing, crying, anger, ect.. are all perfectly normal.

  • Feel free to inform the therapist of what you are experiencing during (and after) massage so the therapist can ‘fine tune’ any follow up treatments for you.

  • Stretch! Especially if you have a job that has you sitting or standing for long periods of time. Here's a great website for a variety of different strectches for each muscle group                         http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/finder/lookup/filter/exercisetype/id/3/exercisetype/stretching
